Spoiling The Special Man In Your Life!

June 11

Here we are and it’s Father’s Day already, and I am determined to come up with a unique or unusual gift for my wonderful dad and my hard-working hubby. Here are some of my sleuthing results!

The Dog’s Ear is a store that offers its customers the latest in computerized embroidery technology, vinyl printing and photos on garments of their choice and colour. They are the best at what they do! I had one printed up for my husband and it said, “Efficiency Expert – NO People Skills Required!” Oh…so true…so true! My husband laughed like crazy and his co-workers just loved it! They all wanted to know where they could get their custom T-shirts done.

They also carry official sports team merchandise for BC Lions and the Vancouver Canucks. I’ve bought many a T-shirt, hat, and car flag there. Go Canucks Go!

And for those men who love to BBQ, House of Knives has the perfect gift. Be a “Barbeque Master” with the Roxon BBQ Multi Tool 6-in-1. The tools are made of high-quality 420 stainless steel for durability and finished off with lightweight aluminium scales. Take this folding BBQ tool anywhere; it’s perfect for grilling in the park, camping, and those long road trips.

House of Knives also has the perfect gift for the hiker-camper-hunter dad, or simply for anyone who loves the outdoors. The Black Tusk Survival Bracelet is simply Awesome! The bracelet itself is made of 10ft of 550 braided paracord. Simply unravel it to use the paracord to tie up a tent, string up your food away from wildlife, secure a hammock, or even go fishing. On its plastic clasp, you’ll find a variety of useful outdoor tools, including a whistle, a compass, a mirror-polished serrated knife, and a flint fire-starter. You can wear this functional bracelet or hook it to your bag or gear. Even “MacGyver” would approve.

For dads with a more urban taste, they have the “Cocktail Shakers”, or “Boston Shakers” which are a key part of every bartender’s collection. They are crafted from stainless steel and glass, with helpful measurements on the side. Some even have popular recipes, so you don’t have to think too much while you get your drink on. I’ll have whatever he’s making! LOL

They also have the coolest pen that I’ve ever seen. The Fisher Cap-O-Matic Space Pen has a non-reflective military approved finish (so you don’t signal a drone by accident haha!). The retracting mechanism is extremely smooth and quiet. As with all Space Pens, it can write upside-down and underwater. Heck, it’ll do both at the same time! I love it, it’s so unique!

If the man in your life is “outdoorsy”, Mountain Warehouse is the place for you. They’ve got backpacks, walking poles, pedometers, compasses etc. They also have a really compact bottle walking kit that contains: an 800ml water bottle, a disposable poncho, a penknife with scissors, a survival whistle, a compass & a thermometer, a flint lighter, a LED torch, and a carabiner. WOW! Do you think they forgot anything?

Sunrise Records is a great place to get a tv themed board game if your dad is into that sort of thing. Monopoly: Fallout Collector’s Edition or Monopoly: The Big Bang Theory are great choices. And there is the always popular “Battleship”. Other popular games are Clue: Legend of Zelda and Clue: Supernatural Collector’s Edition. Everyone has their absolute fave tv shows! My daughter and her husband love to pull out a board game like Risk: Game of Thrones when their friends come over. The competition can get fierce!

For the music lover just pick up a CD of his favourite band or even better a DVD music concert. My husband has a huge collection of rock concerts. Everything from David Bowie to Nine Inch Nails. Quite the variety… he must have at least 100 rock concert DVDs. It’s so much fun to put one on when you have a group of people over.

Hope this helped get your brain juices going to find the unique gift you are looking for!

Happy Father’s Day!

Happy, middle aged mom (60 is the new 40... right?) of 2 wonderful children (and extended family) still seeing life through my rose coloured glasses. And that is a choice that I have made... to always try and see the positive in people and situations... and to "pay it forward" whenever I can. It's brought me the most unexpected moments of joy and happiness in return. And my mantra is "you are only as old as you think!" So, as a result, I'm still enjoying my rock concerts, my hockey games and just keeping busy!
